Pre & Aftercare

It's imperative to get ready for your tattoo session so that the healing process goes as smoothly as possible. Following an appointment, aftercare is required for a new tattoo. However, many people don't take the same care to prepare their skin for the session, which has a significant negative impact on the outcome. Your skin will be in the optimum state for tattooing if you stay hydrated, moisturize, and avoid irritation. Any time you break the skin, you expose yourself to infections and scarring. By taking good care of your tattoo, you may avoid these issues and make sure that it heals completely. Application of the tattoo is crucial, but a good regimen of pre and post care is also extremely important

Pre-Care

Before you come in for your tattoo (Cosmetic or Body) appointment it’s important you take care of your skin and body. The following the below steps it is guaranteed to have an incredible tattooing journey.

  • Make sure you are well rested.

  • Eat and drink well in advance.

  • No alcohol 24 hours before your appointment.

  • Wear comfortable clothing if necessary for the place where the tattoo will be.

  • Wearing dark clothing is generally recommended because of possible ink splashes.

  • The clinic is a scent free environment

  • Take a snack with you if you have longer tattoo appointments (3+ hours).

  • Getting tattooed takes a lot of energy and adrenaline.

  • Bring something to entertain yourself. A chat is always possible, but a tattoo artist must also be able to focus on tattooing.

  • Be in the moment. You could take someone with you, but please be mindful that the artist is working and too many people could be disturbing. Preferably accompanied by 1 person is ideal due to space constraint.

Healing Process

The visible portion of the skin's outer layer, which has a tattoo, usually heals in 2 to 3 weeks. It might take up to 6 months for the skin beneath a tattoo to properly heal, despite the fact that it could appear and feel healed and you might be tempted to scale back on the aftercare. Skin surrounding larger tattoos takes longer to heal, and some actions, such as poking at the scabs, failing to moisturize, skipping SPF, or applying lotion containing alcohol, may delay the healing process.

Tattoo healing stages

The stages of tattoo healing may often be broken down into four distinct stages, and the care for your tattoo varies slightly with each stage.

Week 1

Day 1 to around day 6 constitutes the first stage. For the first few hours, your new tattoo will be covered by a bandage; after that, it will be treated as an open wound. You may experience redness, seeping, mild inflammation or swelling, a burning feeling, or other signs of your body reacting to the lesion.

Week 2

Itching and flaking are possible during this phase. Even though it may appear that some of the ink is flaking off, flaky skin is a natural reaction and shouldn't cause you any concern. Avoid picking or scraping at scabs. The skin around the tattoo could stay hydrated with the use of a moisturizer that is prescribed by a tattoo artist or doctor.

Weeks 3 and 4

The itchiness should subside as your tattoo dries. Redness that doesn't go away could be an early indicator of an infected tattoo. It's possible that your tattoo doesn't look as brilliant as you had expected, but that's only because a layer of dry skin has grown over it.The vibrant tattoo will be revealed when this naturally exfoliates. Avoid picking or scratching, which could leave scars.

Months 2 to 6

By this time, the redness and itching should be gone, and your tattoo may appear to be totally healed, but it's still a good idea to continue with aftercare. Maintaining hydration, using sunscreen or sun protective clothes, and keeping the tattoo clean are all aspects of long-term tattoo care.

Beauty procedures
On the Phone
  • Leave the plastic film on for 2 hours. No longer than 5 hours.

  • After removing the plastic film, wash your tattoo with warm water and unscented soap. Make sure you use a lot of water to rinse off all Vaseline and soap.

  • Dab dry with a clean towel.

  • Allow to air dry for the rest of the day. No tight or synthetic clothing over it. If you have to cover the tattoo, do so with cotton clothing.

  • Do not cover the tattoo again.

  • You can put a cream on your tattoo after drying.

  • We advice Hustle Butter, which is vegan.

  • If you get irritation, red, dry skin or a skin rash, switch to a different cream.

  • Apply the cream on twice a day for 2 weeks. This is a guideline, you could use more often or continue to lubricate for longer, depending on the dryness of your skin.

  • Avoid the sun the first three weeks of healing. Later go with SPF 50.

  • It is always good to keep your tattoo protected with a sunscreen when exposed to the sun. Especially tattoos with colours.

  • Avoid the tanning bed during the first three weeks of healing.
